Every Youth Deserves A Trained Leader

Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed: This is Scouting Online Training, Youth Protection Online Training, Fast Start Online Training and the Cub Scout Leader Specific Training for their position. The online training should be taken within 48 hours of becoming a leader. We also highly recommend Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation Training (BALOO).

Cub Scout Leader Specific Training is required for the following positions: Tiger Leader, Wolf/Bear Leader/Asst Leader, Webelos Leader/Asst Leader, Cubmaster/Assistant Cubmaster, Pack Committee, and Pack Trainer.

Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed: "This is Scouting" Online Training (replaced New Leader Essentials), Youth Protection Online Training, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. Troop Committee members are considered trained when they have completed "This Is Scouting" and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific Training.

You can take these trainings in other districts within our council or in other councils. Choose the time and place that works best for you. If it has been five or more years since you received your training, we recommend that you retake the training as a refresher course.

Youth Protection Online Training is now valid for two years. If it has been more than two years since you took it, you must refresh that training.

Our goal is every leader 100% trained!

National Camping Award

Boy Scout troops can earn this award based on the number of days and nights they spend camping. Forms are available at the Council Service Center.

Summer Time Pack Award

Your pack qualifies for the Summer Time Pack Award if they do an activity in the months of June, July and or August. Forms are available at the Council Service Center.

Training Opportunities

Cub Scout Leader Specific Training will be offered at Roundtables beginning at 7:00 PM (promptly) and concluding by 9:00 PM. Training at Roundtables is free.

Roundtables are held at Schuylkill Career & Technology Center, North Campus, Frackville. Take Route 61 into Frackville and turn at the Hess Gas Station. Go behind the Vo-Tech building to park and come in the double glass doors into the cafeteria. Roundtable are held there monthly from September through May of each year. There is no roundtable in June and July. Our August roundtable is usually a picnic - watch for details.

Cub Scout Leader Training is also available at your unit location if you have 5 or more leaders committed to attend from your unit or surrounding units. Contact Kathy Naugle at to schedule a date.

NOTE FOR CUB SCOUT LEADERS: If you have already received your basic cub scout leader training and you need to update it for a new position, you only need to attend the training portion for that specific position. You do not need to repeat Part 1 of Cub Scout Specific Leader training (Intro to Cub Scouting and How we have fun).
